Epson Printer Troubleshooting: 8 Steps

These are the most common reasons why your Epson printer does not print correctly.

1. Printer cartridges

You may be having difficulty printing due to your printer cartridge. The cartridge can cause various problems.

2. Print head blocked

Dirt and dust can accumulate on your printer. And this buildup can block the print head, causing the printer to stop working properly.

3. Problems with paper

It's hard to believe, but the paper you're using may be causing the problem. You must make sure that you load the correct size paper for your printer.

4. Default printer settings

Another common problem is that you have not set your Epson printer as the default. You can fix this problem quickly.

  • Open your Control Panel
  • Go to Devices and Printers
  • If your Epson printer is not set as default, right-click "Epson Printer" and click "Set as Default."
  • Make sure the printer has a green check mark.

5. Printer firmware and firewall issues

To determine if your firewall has a problem, you will need to temporarily disable it.

  • Go to the search bar, enter "Windows Defender Firewall" and click on it
  • Choose "Turn Windows Firewall on or off" located on the left
  • Disable the firewall on public and private networks.
  • Select “OK” to confirm the changes.
  • Once you have disabled the firewall, try printing again. If the printer works, you know there was a firewall installation problem.

You shouldn't leave your firewall disabled, so you should reinstall it as quickly as possible.

6. Print jobs stuck in the print queue

Your print job may be stuck in the printer queue and you will need to clear the print queue and then try to print again.

Follow these steps to clear the print queue.

  • open control panel
  • Enter services.msc in the search bar and hit enter
  • Scroll down to Print Queue and right click. Click stop
  • Go to "Run", type "Spool" and press Enter
  • Open the "Printers" folder
  • Delete everything in the folder.
  • Go to the "services" window, right-click on the printer's print queue and select "Start".
  • Try reprinting your work

7. Offline Printer

Your printer may show that it is offline, but you can change the setting from offline to online. There are several reasons for this message.

Check that the printer and the Epson device are connected to the same Internet source. It would be wise to determine if you have internet.

If there is no internet, your printer will show as offline and you will have to wait until the internet is restored before you can print.

Check all cables to determine if everything is plugged in. A disconnected or loose cable can also cause an offline message.

This is what you have to do:

  • Go to dashboard
  • Click on "Devices and Printers"
  • Find your Epson printer and right click on it.
  • Choose "See what's printing."
  • Go to "Use printer offline" and make sure it is not selected
  • If it shows a check mark, click it to change the setting to online
  • Here's how to fix your Epson printer offline.

8. Outdated Printer Driver

It is essential to keep your printer driver up to date. You should install the latest updates as soon as you can.

You can update your printer driver by following the steps below.

  • Go to Windows search option and enter Run
  • Enter “devmgmt.msc” in the search box and press Enter
  • Go to print or print queue
  • Right click on the Epson printer and tap on “Update Driver” from the list
  • Select "Search for an updated driver program automatically."
  • Follow the instructions on the screen to continue with the installation.
